WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade item also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your gear. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will display an image of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item upgrade slot, and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item Level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain the latest recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with several new features added. After the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is even if those items come from a different set of gear.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
