The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you cao score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuum with mop vacuums we've test. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
