Discourse Construction Tests

The discourse completion test is a common instrument in pragmatic research. It has numerous advantages, but also a few disadvantages. The RIs further revealed that CLKs were aware of their own pragmatism in each DCT situation. The RIs were conducted one-toone within two days after the participants completed the MQs. The RIs, which were transcribed and recorded by two coders independent of each other and then coded. The coders worked in an iterative manner, with the coders re-reading and discussing each transcript. The results of coding were contrasted with the original RI transcripts, which gave an indication of how the RIs were able to capture the fundamental behavior.

Refusal Interviews

The central issue in research on pragmatics is: why do some learners choose not to accept native-speaker norms? Recent research sought to answer this question with several experimental tools including DCTs MQs and RIs. Participants included 46 CLKs and 44 CNSs from five Korean Universities. They were asked to complete the DCTs in their first language and 프라그마틱 카지노 complete the MQs either in their L1 or their L2. The results showed that, on average, the CLKs rejected native-speaker pragmatic norms in more than 40% of their answers.
