Until recently the scientific community in Korea has been hesitant to engage with creationists, afraid that doing so might give the movement more credibility. Silence is no longer an alternative.

What is Evolution?

Evolution is a concept in science that explains changes in genetic characteristics over time. The term"transmutation" was coined by Lamarck's disciple, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, challenged the idea of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy’s student.

More recently evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living creatures develop characteristics that enhance their chances of survival or the ability to reproduce offspring. As time passes the genetic variability could cause the emergence of completely new biological functions or physical traits in a population. The variation in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and it is the main driver of evolutionary change. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolution since they aren't passed down to the next generation.

Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the tests of time and thousands of scientific studies, creationists have seized on the idea that the theory is controversial and argue that it shouldn't be taught in schools. The most popular type of creationist is known as the YEC. They believe that God created the universe exactly in the way that is described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of the first six days of creation was literal and that the universe and life on Earth were created just recently.

OECs aren't as well-known However, their beliefs are as intense like the YECs. OECs believe the universe and Earth are billions of years old and that evolution is a lie.

Both types of creationism reject the idea that scientific principles like biogenesis and natural selection could explain how life began on Earth. They argue that evolution is not possible because it requires miracles. The founders of modern scientific thought shunned miracles out of fear they could lose their credibility.

Some creationists accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and refer to their belief "theistic evolution." This is sometimes called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from created kinds." In this belief system, God creates the original species and then allows them to change over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species that are similar to the original.

Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, called the Great Flood. Creationists believe that all the species of the beginning were created at the same time and that they gradually evolved. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis and claim that the emergence of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is impossible.

In general, creationists oppose teaching evolution in schools. What is Creationism?

Its sights are now set on removing snippets of Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution too.

STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and individual members. Its goal is to weed out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American Creationists in the nation. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that around half do not believe in evolution. The causes are not evident, but they could be due to religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the country.

The KACR has achieved a lot through its lectures and seminars in the past. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and an ebook. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences, with a creationist viewpoint, which sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor, together with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.

On August 6 and 7 in 1993, the same day that the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from around the world including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand. KACR and its members have been giving lectures on creation science in major seminaries, too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
