A key question of pragmatic research is why learners are hesitant to adhere to native-speaker pragmatic norms. A recent study sought to answer this question by using a variety of experimental instruments, including DCTs, MQs and RIs. The participants comprised 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs, and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. The results showed that, on average, the CLKs resisted the pragmatic norms of native speakers in more than 40% of their responses. These findings suggest that native-speaker pragmatic norms are no longer the default preference of Korean learners. They could still be useful as a model for official Korean proficiency tests. This will allow them to better know how different cultures may impact the pragmatic behavior of learners in the classroom and beyond. The case study method is an investigational strategy that uses participant-centered, in-depth investigations to explore a specific subject. Interviewees were presented with two hypothetical situations which involved interactions with their co-workers and were asked to choose one of the strategies listed below to use when making demands.
