1. Engine Speed Sensor
It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 via the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It can be a bit difficult to test since there are various pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. 2. Injectors
Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the fourth one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is 0.
I'm not sure what to do, but i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!
