WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade items increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that are used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item upgrader kit as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular level of an Item Level upgrade for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that level will be less expensive, even if they are part of another ses wisely, as they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
