Window Handles

Window handles are available in a variety of styles and colors to fit your home. They operate a locking system hidden within the frame that allows you to open and close the double glazing handles glazed windows.

Espag Handles

Espag handles operate multi-point locks for double-glazed windows which allows the handle to rotate a series of locks around the window for greater security. Our selection of espagnolette handles includes both cranked and straight styles, with various finishes, including brass, chrome and black.

Each handle is made from robust die cast zinc and powder coated or plated to provide high corrosion resistance as well as protection against wear. They are specifically designed to be used on upvc door locks and handles and aluminium windows with espagnolette or shoot bolt mechanisms and can be locked in the closed position with a key or push button to lock in place.

Typically, espagnolette handles feature seven millimeter squared spindles that runs through the lever backplate and fits into a lock mechanism in the sash frame, turning the handle activates the lock. When choosing an espagnolette handle for the first time, it is essential to take the length of the spindle into consideration as it will determine how the window will open. The spindle's size will be indicated on the backplate of the handle numbers such as 5 3/4', '5', or '2/3' and this is what you should test against your current handle to ensure it will fit.

Cranked handles are a more elegant design to straight handles. They are available in either left-handed versions (opened clockwise) and right-handed versions (opened anticlockwise) in accordance with the method you use to open your window. The cranked design gives you more room to open the window. This is ideal for windows that are close to the frame.

The cockspur is a variation of the espagnolette handle with a cockspur that closes on striker plates like an espagnolette multiple-point lock. This handle can be used to fix old cockspur handles on UPVC or aluminium windows.

Crankspur and cranked handle models can be fitted with a key-lock insert in order to give additional security. They are available in a variety of handed options and also come with a black blanking plug for those who prefer their window handle locked or want to highlight the handle as fire escape only.

Cockspur Handles

The cockspur is a classic window handle with the spur, or triangular bit, that pushes against the wedge on the frame when the handle is closed. They are typically found on older windows made of aluminium or upvc Sliding door handle casement windows which don't have an internal mechanism to secure the frame - so they depend on the cockspur handle for holding them together.

These handles are available in a large selection of nose and nib height options to allows fresh air to enter your home or providing the fire escape.

These handles function in a similar way as an espagnolette handle however they are equipped with additional functions that make them ideal for tilt and turn style windows. The lever can be set downwards when it's locked to close the window and 90 degrees to open the window as a patio door handle locks. It can also be moved upwards to open the window as normal.

They are equipped with a multipoint locking mechanism which is more efficient against forced entry than double-glazed casement windows. The hinges on the bottom of the outer frame have metal locking pins that are engaged into a rail made of steel within the frame when the handle is in a closed position. Two additional hinges on the corners of the bottom can be opened inwards to hold the inner window in place. This feature is ideal for windows with larger windows and allows for better ventilation.

The open mode can be activated by turning the handle in such a way that it is facing up. It opens the window with the vertical direction that allows for better ventilation and makes cleaning much easier. The sash can be pushed into the opposite direction on both sides of the windows to create a gap large enough to fit an incline or a stool through.

Tilt-and-turn handles are typically larger than espag and cockspur handles because they must be able to handle the larger and heavier frames of the same sizes. They are spindle-based and use the same kind of fixings that a standard handle for cockspur or espag employs, but they have a wider base and usually larger screw centers.

uPVC frames which are more affordable than timber or aluminium, and do not require painting are the most sought-after for these windows. However there are numerous wood-effect finishes to choose from. Aluminium is a second option for these kinds of windows as it can be painted in any colour to match the look of your house and is lighter than uPVC.

Handles for spades or blades
