Evolution Korea

The democratic system in South Korea is vulnerable to populist impulses. It is still healthier than we had hoped for.

The country is in search of an alternative development model. A Confucian culture that values respect for ancestors and gendered family relations continues to influence the way we live. There are indications of a secularist culture trend forming.

Origins

In the early days the ancestors of the modern Koreans were able to survive by hunting and gathering wild food. Then around 10,000 years ago they began to cultivate crops such as millet and beans. They also raised livestock and produced furs. They established tribal states in Manchuria and later on the Korean peninsula. They also created an industry of metalworking, making bronze tools and later iron tools. They also traded with other countries and introduced block printing to Japan, 에볼루션 슬롯 as well as art styles and a written language and papermaking.

Gojoseon was founded in 2333 BCE on the southern peninsula. This state embraced Chinese culture, including Confucian Philosophy and Buddhism. In this period, the people of Buyeo were incorporated into Gojoseon. Gojoseon was a hierarchical society that included a monarch as well as high-ranking officials were drawn from the landed aristocracy, while the majority of the population was peasants. The state took taxes from these citizens, and sometimes required them to join the army or to build fortifications.

Onjo, a prince from Goguryeo who was also the son of Jumong the founder of Goguryeo and the state of Baekje towards the end of the period. The new kingdom expanded to the southwest of the peninsula, and was at war against the Goguryeo commanderies and China's in the region. Baekje took on Confucian ideas in its state beliefs system in 1390 CE, and introduced the male-centric concept of filiopiety a doctrine. In the name of filiopiety, fathers were accountable to their families. They were expected to be obeyed by everyone and admired by even their children and grandchildren.

Goryeo, a nation which ruled from 918 until 1392 CE, gave the world the Hangul Alphabet, based on the shapes created by the mouth when it pronounces. This greatly improved communication between people and resulted in an explosion of the writing of Buddhist texts. Additionally, movable metallic type printing was introduced, and woodblock printing was refined. It was at this time that the Samguk sagi, or 'History Of the Three Kingdoms' first appeared in 1145 CE.

The evolution of Korea

The Korean peninsula was inhabited from Neolithic times onwards. Early evidence of human settlements is evident in the form of cist graves lined with stone, and decorated with precious items such as amazonite jewelry that were buried with the dead. Megalithic structures, known as dolmens and built of large stones in a single piece, are widespread throughout the country.
